About OER at UH

Mission

The mission of the University of Hawai'i Open Educational Resources (OER) Committee is to empower students, faculty, and lecturers to attain educational success by reducing barriers to learning and by promoting open teaching practices. The committee supports and encourages the adoption, adaptation, creation, and sharing of open resources and the use of open pedagogies. The UH OER Committee nurtures an environment where the learning community can discover, create, and share knowledge for the benefit of all.

Vision

Open educational culture empowers everyone to reach their full potential through open access and fosters representation, equity, and inclusiveness. Our learning community and community partners have greater flexibility and access to education by embracing open culture values: examples include the use of openly licensed high-quality resources and open pedagogy strategies. We help prepare students for our diverse global community, and we practice respect and care for Hawaiian culture and the land in which we live.
