Learn about Open Educational Resources (OER) and how to convert your course to Textbook Cost Zero (TXT0) and earn up to $1,000 this semester! Applications are now open for instructional faculty and staff at UH Mānoa, UH West Oahu, and UH Hilo to participate in an online, asynchronous professional development course on the Lamakū learning management system.
What will I learn in this training?
There are two levels of training available: Introduction to OER, and Advanced OER. The first training includes 15-20 hours of reading and reflection on the basics of OER, copyright, open licensing, remixing content, and attribution. For those who are interested in leveling up further, the Advanced OER course expands on the basic concepts with activities that support adoption and remixing of OER and free resources to lower or eliminate textbook and materials costs. The Advanced OER training can also be completed in 15-20 hours, depending on your prior experience with OER.
When will this training run?
The Introduction to OER training will open Monday, March 17 and run through Friday, April 4. The Advanced OER training will open Monday, April 7 and run through Friday, April 25. Completion of the training will be verified by your campus OER lead.
What will I earn in this training?
Completion of each of the training courses will earn participants $500, with a total of $1,000 in overload funding available for each eligible participant.
Who is eligible to participate in this training program?
Instructors, lecturers, librarians, instructional designers, and instructional support personnel at UH Mānoa, UW West O’ahu, and UH Hilo who are able receive an overload stipend in June, 2025 can apply. This opportunity is aimed at reaching folks who have not received a stipend in the past for OER training at UH.
How do I apply to participate?
Complete this form by March 12 to begin the process. Verification of overload eligibility will rest with your department before you are invited to the course in Lamakū. The deadline to apply to participate is March 12, 2025.
