What is OER?

Open Educational Resources (OER) are learning, teaching, and research resources that are either in the public domain, or have been released with an intellectual property license that permits free reuse and repurposing.

OER come in the form of online courseware, books, articles, websites, videos, images, and many other kinds of digital and print resources.  The key component that defines an OER is the open license attached to it, most commonly a Creative Commons license.
